About The Author
When Amy Shojai was a kid, her best friends were animals–imagined and real–some discovered in the pages of beloved books. She never lost her love of reading when she grew up and became a champion of dogs and cats as an animal behavior consultant. That led to writing 35+ award-winning nonfiction pet care titles. She still feels incredibly moved and blessed when readers say her advice saved pet lives. But something was missing…
She missed reading stories that entranced her as a child, exciting tales that prompted gasps of delight, tearful concern, and shouts of joyous relief at the happy tail-wagging endings. She wanted to read pets portrayed with respect–not as talking humans in fur coats. She wanted to read thriller stories for adults, with animals acting like animals–smart and heroic and brave, with hearts that could also ache, but bonds with humans they’d never break.
So–she wrote what she wanted to read, wept with her characters, laughed at their antics, and fell in love with her fiction world. Imagine her surprise when readers embraced September and Shadow stories, too! Whatever our age, make-believe keeps us young, right?

About The stories
I love the intrigue and science of Rollins (he writes dog viewpoint, too!); the depth of Deaver, the character-driven plots of King, and the WOW-factor of Koontz (another great dog writer).
I love James Patterson’s pace, JT Ellison’s normal-turned-scary, and so many others I continue to discover.
I’m relatively new to the fiction-ing world, but many established authors are incredibly welcoming and supportive. Some have generously given my books their paw-stamp of approval.
My first career as a vet tech and animal behavior expert colors my fiction, and I strive to provide accurate realistic information with plots often ripped-from-the-headlines. But in my stories, the PETS NEVER EVER DIE!
I also challenge myself to write stories that Grandma can share with youthful readers–so no graphic s*x or egregious language. They are thrillers, though, so mayhem and murder abound.
Any unflattering depictions are just for entertainment. It’s fiction, after all. 🙂
